An upper-intermediate to advanced level course of English grammar in context: a functional approach to grammar. This course will serve as a background resource for other courses involving work on translation, stylistics, discourse studies and meta-language. The course explains uses of English grammar through different forms according to speakers’ and writers’ communicative goals and shows how meanings are expressed in different ways. The course will focus on uses and usages of tenses, passive forms, nominal, verbal, adjectival, adverbial and prepositional groups and phrases, and clause structures.
