This course is intended for learners who have reached upper-intermediate proficiency in general English usage and built foundation in knowledge and skills in business-related communication. In the light of helping learners enhance their employability and career prospects in prospective multinational businesses or organizations, this course continues to equip learners with knowledge and understanding of new business concepts, develop essential business communication skills (such as making presentations, negotiating, resolving conflict etc.), and also provides intensive practice to consolidate previous knowledge and skills acquired from previous level.  Learners at this level only need supervision and scrutiny of their English usage with complicated or new tasks as linguistic errors are less common.

This course is intended for learners who have reached high proficiency in general English usage, which will provide an extremely business-rich English-using circumstance to help learners enhance their employability and career prospects in prospective multinational businesses or organizations. There would be no need for close supervision and scrutiny of the English of a successful learner at this level. Linguistic errors of all types would be rare. The linguistic skills already introduced and practiced at the previous levels will be utilized and reinforced in more advanced tasks. The examination will test linguistic skills and business knowledge at an advanced level.

The course is designed to teach students know how to write the following kinds of business

writing: letters, emails, memos, reports and notices. Through the course, students will get

acquainted with the layout, format and presentation of content, organization of content and

suitable style and tone as well as the conventions employed in the above types of writing which

are considered as effective tools for internal communication in an organization.

This course provides students with knowledge of speech sounds at the segmental and suprasegmental levels. At the segmental level, students will be introduced to the way vowels and consonants are made and how those segments combine to produce syllables, words, and sentences. At the suprasegmental level, students will be introduced to such factors as stress, rhythm, and intonation, which make pronunciation vary when the segments are articulated. Also, through the introduction of the function of intonation, students can find its practical applicability in carrying out everyday conversation.

This introductory training course for the ELT strand aims to equip English language teachers-to-be with fundamental knowledge and skills in the field of English teaching and learning. It provides essential background issues in ELT including theories of second language learning, and different teaching methods. It also develops students’ knowledge and skills in understanding learners, managing classes and giving feedback. This course is a pre-requisite for most of the subsequent ELT courses.

The Morphology-Syntax course is an introductory course. It focuses on practical aspects of application rather than exploring theories. The course consists of two parts: Morphology & Syntax. With reference to Morphology, students will study the internal structure of the words and the relationships among words. In terms of syntax, students will study the internal structure of sentences and the relationships among the internal parts. The course is based on the Chomskian tradition.

An upper-intermediate to advanced listening and speaking course, CEFR B2, C1

The course provides teaching and learning of the necessary language for interaction and discussion in authentic contexts. It offers exploration of high-interest subject areas such as: health science; history/archaeology; anthropology/sociology, earth science; and economics, using content from National Geographic publications. The course focuses on the effective use of essential, high-frequency vocabulary, reviews important grammatical structures, and provides for the practice of listening and speaking skills which are essential for academic and social settings. The course aims to increase learners’ visual literacy and develop critical thinking, in order to enhance academic success.
